A King’s Primer

Have you ever played checkers? One of the strategies is to get as many “Kings” as possible. Kings can move in any direction within their own Kingdom..(color) The purpose of Kingship is to be able to move quicker and easier to overtake the opponent (the enemy) The Kingdom of God works the same way…He wants to be able to move us within His Kingdom in order to take the emery off the table. The scripture says we are Kings and Priests unto our God…Royalty…but not to just be royalty…to jump the emery and take him off the board…this primer may give you some insight as to what the bible says about your Kingship…
Do you know that Revelation 5:10 tells us that Jesus made us to be kings and priests and we shall reign on the earth? This verse is in the present tense and it is the Father’s desire for us to live in this most favored condition. It is the Father’s love that He gives us a concise primer for how to be a king in the kingdom. Let’s consider the life of David and the surrounding events of his coronation as the king of the united Israel.
2 Samuel 5:1-5- A King is known by the people.- David was known by the other shepherds, he was known by the military officials, he was known by the royal family and he was known by all the other citizens of Israel. The leaders and people declared that, “Indeed we are your bone and your flesh.” Not only must we know the king but we must know the king’s capabilities. We must also know that the person has the call of God on their lives. The way to determine a king’s nature is that covenant always precedes anointing. The Father will only anoint those who have a covenant prayer life active in their lives.
2 Samuel 5:6-12- A King does not pay attention to the nay-sayers- Some have said that the Jebusite spirit is a religious spirit that always doubts and questions the new leader or new thing that the Father is raising up or performing. David did not respond to the Jebusite’s nay saying but used their words to encourage his followers on to a great victory and the capture of Jerusalem. The Jebusite often functions out of a jealous or fearful spirit, ignore them and believe what the Father has spoken to you. Like David, you can speak great words of faith and victory because you know who established and who exalted you. The result of an active covenant prayer life.
2 Samuel 5:17-25- A King seeks and responds to the Father’s guidance.- Isaiah 43:18,19 and Phillipians 3:12-14 illustrate the principle that the Father is always leading us on to new things and we must not get too comfortable in the now or even the past. This is the way the Father keeps us in total dependence on Him. Too often we anticipate and try to get ahead of His perfect will. Psalm 37:23 tells us “that the steps (path and pace) of a righteous man are ordered by the Lord.”
When we develop a covenant prayer life and grow as a king the Father will hold your heart in His hand (Proverbs 21:1) and guide you from faith to faith and from glory to glory as He fulfills His destiny for you.
